MARKET BASKET: BAD BLOOD AND CORPORATE GREED

Inside the billionaire family feud that nearly destroyed Market Basket

Unless you live under a rock, we all know about the Market Basket feud and power struggle. The path to a peaceful outcome that saved a beloved business had plenty of drama which eventually produced a book and even a movie. But what you might know about is what sparked the original feud and how it followed a path of scandals and power struggles, including a fictitious job interview, a court clerk wearing a wire, disbarment of two lawyers on the verge of outright extortion, board power plays, and suspect related-party transactions.

Join Grant Welker, author of We Are Market Basket, as we trace the story of the unlikely grassroots movement that saved a beloved business.

Each year, the Northeastern University Center for Family Business recognizes family businesses across the state with the Massachusetts Family Business of the Year Awards. The awards program was created to promote and highlight some of the great achievements of Massachusetts-based, family-held businesses and entrepreneurs.

Recipients of the Massachusetts Family Business of the Year Awards are selected by a panel of independent judges based on the following criteria: business success, positive business and family linkages, multi-generational family involvement, contributions to the community and industry, and innovative business practices or strategies.
